As your reporter was typing this column the Borate Bombers, helicopter and spotter plane were flying overhead; the North side of the river, above the Covered Bridge was burning. Jumping into the vehicle, I was off to Frymire Hill for a better view. The flames could be seen past the John Simons home and the Borate Bomber laid a strip of retardant on the hillside. The helicopter dipped water from above the Covered Bridge and doused hot spots. Fire engines could be seen through the smoke crawling over the hills. About 200 acres burned. Thanks firefighters!

Heather Wright has returned from Joplin, Missouri, where she spent 30 days working for the Sacramento Division of the U.S. Army Corp. doing construction debris removal from the tornado. She did not like the weather, 100 degrees and humid! She did like the personal stories, which were amazing! One third of the town was destroyed. Heather also worked doing data management for FEMA.

At the meeting of the Knights Ferry School Board, the Board members started the meeting with a walk around of the newly completed work on the school grounds. This project, done by Haskell and Haskell, was fully funded by safety grants. It was reported parents completed the Parent/Faculty Club’s storage shed. Back to School Night will be August 25th.
