Orange Blossom 4-H held their Christmas meeting on the 13th. They had a centerpiece contest. Best use of pinecones went to Joey Wyckoff. Best use of packages went to Emma Morales. Breanna Banks won best floral centerpiece. The most creative centerpiece was made by Zachary Huffman and his brother Stony made the cutest centerpiece. The winners received some candy. After the business part of the meeting, everyone enjoyed refreshments. Congratulations to Kindra Wyckoff who received her Canine Level I certificate, she passed the written test on dogs.

At the meeting of the Knights Ferry History and Museum Associates, they discussed Christmas in Knights Ferry, the good and what could be corrected for next year. During the Christmas celebration at the museum, a relative of William Knight visited and talked about her relative. She told how her granddaughter, who goes to Chico State, was talking to a girl in her dorm and she turns out to be Sasha Sinkevich! So Sasha is going to school with the great-great-great great granddaughter of William Knight. What a small world! Also discussed was the trimming of the tree limbs that overhang the building. They will be taken care of soon.

On Saturday, December 11th the Orange Blossom 4-H Cloverbuds (primary grades) made Christmas gifts. They learned how to make “Gifts in a Jar,” a gooey brownie mix. The group also made chocolate dipped peppermint spoons to stir your favorite hot drink. During the meeting glitter and stickers were flying across the room as the Cloverbuds made over 40 Christmas cards to hand out at a care home.

Michael and Maureen McKibban had Gwen Flanagan visiting from Newcastle, Australia (just up the coast from Sydney). Gwen was on a flying trip to see her “mom,” Margaret Snyder, who was dying. The McKibbans were good friends with Margaret and therefore good friends of Gwen, who was an exchange student in the 1980s. Maureen picked Gwen up at the airport and rushed to Hughson where they arrived just in time to say good-bye.

Knights Ferry School held their Winter Program last Thursday at the clubhouse. The Beginning Band led off as the Knights Ferry Ding-a-Lings, a bell-ringing choir. They played “The First Noel” on the bells. The Intermediate Band followed with a holiday medley. All the classes participated with vocal numbers. The staff brought down the house with “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” lyrics by Natalie Brockman.

Angie and Richie Studer and children Pete and Jake are over from Switzerland to visit Angie’s parents, Bill and Kay Martinelli. The cousins are enjoying their USA cousins, Hannah, Vincent, Troy, James, Kaeli, Degan and Logan.

The Oakdale Model A Car Club enjoyed their Christmas dinner at the River’s Edge last Thursday evening.
