Fire Calls 6-17-20

Several people were injured when a 17-year-old male driver from Riverbank was eastbound on Sierra, just east of Wren Road on Friday afternoon, June 12. The teen, according to CHP report, was in a Honda SUV and made an illegal and unsafe passing maneuver around a Toyota sedan driven by a 41-year-old Turlock man. Crossing the double yellow line, the teen entered the westbound traffic lane and collided head on with a westbound Honda sedan, driven by a 35-year-old Oakdale woman. The impact caused the Honda SUV to overturn, the Honda sedan left the north shoulder and the Toyota driver observed the collision just ahead of him and took evasive action. He turned to the right, left the south road edge and collided with a tree. The teen had laceratio

 

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27 and 28 in Oakdale; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area. Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 9 through Monday, June 15.

 

MONDAY, JUNE 15

1:25 p.m. – Modesto Water Rescue 29, Water Rescue 28, Battalion 5 and Stanislaus Engine 26 responded for reports of a person stranded along the river near Honolulu Rec Area. Boat 28 made contact and transported the uninjured subject to Orange Blossom Rec. Area.

5:36 p.m. – Modesto and Stanislaus Water Rescue crews responded to the area of Honolulu Bar for a kayaker stranded along the river. Water Rescue 29 transported the uninjured subject back to the rec area.

 

SUNDAY, JUNE 14

Modesto and Stanislaus crews trained at a vacant structure set for demolition on Crane Road in Oakdale. Fire officials offered a ‘thank you’ to Brian Odom from the City of Oakdale and John Pronoitis from Florsheim Homes for facilitating the training opportunity.

5:08 p.m. – Modesto, Stanislaus Consolidated, Cal Fire, Oak Valley Ambulance and Stanislaus Sheriff responded to reports of an injury accident with a vehicle on fire at Woodward Reservoir. Crews arrived on scene with a fully involved vehicle and approximately two acres of grass on fire. One patient was transported by ground ambulance. CHP investigating.

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 13

Crews from Modesto fire and Stanislaus Consolidated fire trained on ladders, forcible entry and ventilation at an acquired structure in the City of Oakdale.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 12

11:51 a.m. – Stanislaus Grass 26 and Modesto Battalion 5 responded to assist Escalon Fire on Highway 120. Crews from Escalon, Salida, and Farmington were working a vegetation fire that extended into tires and plastic.

13:17 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 27, Battalion 5 and Stanislaus Engine 26 responded to an injury accident on Sierra near Wren Road in Oakdale. BC5 requested an additional engine after reports of three vehicles involved and an air ambulance enroute. Crews arrived on scene with Oak Valley Ambulance an Oakdale Police Department. Four patients at the scene were triaged and treated while additional fire crews worked to extricate one driver who was pinned in. Modesto Engine 30 responded to the Oakdale Airport to assist with helicopter landing.

2:25 p.m. – Modesto and Stanislaus units responded to the Dollar General Store on Roselle Avenue in Riverbank for reports of a vegetation fire threatening structures. Crews were able to contain the fire to grass, fence lines and debris. No extension to structures.

4:57 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, 28, Battalion 5 and Stanislaus Engine 26 responded for reports of a motor vehicle accident on Highway 108 at Langworth Road. Crews found two vehicles involved with one overturned. All occupants self-extricated with one suffering minor injuries.

 

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10

12 p.m. – Engine 27 responded to a roadside grass fire in Station 28s area; Engine 28 assisted when they cleared from a previous call. Both crews worked to contain a grass fire that was approximately a quarter-acre in the area of Greger and Kaufman roads in Oakdale.
