The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27 and 28 in Oakdale; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Nov. 17 through Monday, Nov. 23. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, NOV. 23
7:16 a.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 29 and Battalion 5 responded to the 5000 block of Highway 4 for a traumatic injury. Crews arrived on scene with Oak Valley Ambulance to find a patient with a severe hand injury after getting it stuck in machinery. An Air Ambulance was requested but declined due to weather. E28 firefighter rode in to assist Oak Valley with patient care to a Modesto Hospital. Cal-Osha notified of the incident.
No Times Listed: Weekly Apparatus and equipment checks were completed.
EMS Division coordinated Zoll AED service and maintenance.
SUNDAY, NOV. 22
10:52 a.m. – Modesto, Ceres and Stanislaus units responded to reports of a working structure fire in the 600 block of River Road. Crews arrived on scene with a well involved fifth wheel trailer on fire. The fire was quickly contained with no injuries reported. FIU at the scene investigating the cause.
3:43 p.m. – Modesto Water Rescue 28, Battalion 5, Engine 27 and Stanislaus Water Rescue 24 responded to reports of stranded boaters at Woodward Reservoir. Crews arrived on scene and located a boat stuck on a sandbar in the middle of the lake. Boat 28 attempted to tow the boat off the sandbar but was unsuccessful. The occupants of the boat were ferried to the main boat launch. The owner planned to arrange a retrieval the next day.
SATURDAY, NOV. 21
10:59 a.m. – Modesto Engine 28 was dispatched for a subject who was injured when a tree fell in the 13000 block of Lancaster Road in Oakdale. Battalion 5 attached to the call and when the air ambulance was requested, Engine 27 also responded. Crews arrived on scene to find a patient who was already extricated. He was a part of a group who were cutting down a large tree on the property. The tree broke while being cut and sent the group running in different directions. The patient was initially under the canopy but surprisingly was not pinned to the ground. MFD crews and Oak Valley Ambulance assessed and packaged the patient, with moderate injuries, for ground transport.
2:08 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 27, Battalion 5 and Truck 5 responded to the 600 block of Hill Road in Oakdale for a potential structure fire. Engine 28 arrived on scene with light smoke showing from the garage and upgraded the response to a working fire. Access was made to the garage and a clothes dryer was found to be on fire. The fire was contained quickly with no extension to the structure. FIU at the scene determined the fire to be accidental in nature. No injuries were reported.
7:57 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 29, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to reports of a vehicle roll over on Highway 108 between Lancaster Road and Lover’s Leap. Crews arrived on scene with CHP and Oak Valley Ambulance to find a solo vehicle on its top with one occupant pinned in. Crews extricated the patient with moderate injuries and packaged for air ambulance transport. Engine 27 secured a landing zone in an adjacent pasture for PHI Med 42. Patient flown to a local trauma center. CHP is investigating
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 18
8:57 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Truck 5, Battalion 5, Stanislaus Engine 26 and FIU responded to a potential structure fire in the 1100 block of West G Street in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene and located a fire in the wall of the duplex. Access was quickly made and the fire contained. FIU determined that the cause was a nail that had conducted heat from the romex electrical wire in the wall.
TUESDAY, NOV. 17
7:06 p.m. – Modesto Fire Department, Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, and Salida Fire Department responded to the intersection of McHenry Avenue and Claribel Road for the report of a vehicle accident with multiple patients. Crews arrived on scene to find multiple vehicles involved. Ultimately two people were transported to area hospitals. One with life threatening injuries and a second with moderate injuries. One vehicle occupant was deceased on scene. CHP is investigating; it was later reported there were two fatalities in the collision.
