Chance To Help Magnolia School Win Grant

The community and supporters of Oakdale schools have an opportunity to help Magnolia Elementary School win a grant from Raley’s through an online contest. The contest is in its final days and ends this Friday, Aug. 31.

“Magnolia Elementary has no shade on its playground and we are hoping to fundraise enough money to provide a much-needed shade structure,” Magnolia Parent Teacher Club member Caryn Cummins said. “We have applied for the ‘Raley’s Reach’ campaign for schools to win a $10,000 grant.”

In a continued effort to give back to the community, Raley’s Family of Fine Stores has partnered with Unilever to provide $50,000 in grants to make a difference in Northern California and Nevada schools through Raley’s Reach.

It’s in the hands of the online community to log on and cast their votes for the school they’d like to see benefit from one of five $10,000 grants at www.raleys.com/reach. Cummins said that everyone is allowed to vote every day.

Magnolia is the only school in Oakdale that is participating in this online contest, added Magnolia parent Ursula Evans.

The top school with the most votes in each region will receive $10,000 to put toward their stated back-to-school need. Magnolia is in “Region 4 – Central.” The voting period started Aug. 22 and ends Aug. 31, with winners announced Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Cummins noted that some people have voiced complaints about having to create a Raley’s account in order to vote and having to sign in every time, but she has an easy way around that obstacle.

“I have found that once your account is created and that you have voted, simply bookmark the page and it automatically brings up the voting page.  It simply saves time,” she offered. “We are currently in fourth place right now by a considerable amount. Voting ends Friday, Aug 31, so we really need people to get online and vote. We are up against schools with a lot more students.”

Evans offered the step-by-step to vote in the contest for Magnolia online, as seen below.
