Traveling for a pair of baseball playoff games, the varsity Oakdale Mustangs won the first but fell in the second, ending their season.

The boys went in to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 3 playoffs as the No. 9 seed and traveled to face off with No. 8 Del Campo on Tuesday, May 9 in first round action.

There, it was an 8-4 win for the Mustangs. The teams each scored two runs in the first inning, Del Campo went up 3-2 with a run in the third but Oakdale answered back in a big way with five runs in the fourth to lead it 7-3. Another run in the fifth made it 8-3, but Del Campo pushed across a run in the bottom of the frame, trimming the lead to 8-4 but the host squad couldn’t get any closer. That moved Oakdale into the Thursday, May 11 quarterfinals.

They were once again on the road but, this time, had to take on No. 1 seed Ponderosa. They lost the game, 9-1, scoring their lone run of the contest in their final at-bat to avoid the shutout. Ponderosa scored three runs in the first, one in the second, three more in the fourth and two in the fifth.

The Mustangs ended with a second place showing in the Valley Oak League and went 14-12-1 overall for the campaign.
