Track, Field Team Earns Home Win Against Manteca

The 2020 track and field season is off and running. The Oakdale High School Mustangs squad hosted Manteca on Thursday, March 5. All Mustang levels left The Corral as winners.

Oakdale’s varsity boys team won 97-39 over the Buffaloes. Caleb Cavanaugh took first place in 800 meter race at 2:14 and the 1600 meter race at 4:52. Deion Suarez took first in the 100 meter race with a time of 11.13. Ben Chappell took first in discus at 148 feet. Riley Miller placed first in shot put at 45.5 feet. Jackson Holt placed first in high jump with a leap of 5-8. Jude Krick placed first in pole vault at 11-6.

For the varsity girls it was Kyndall Green who took first place in the 100 meter hurdles at 17.25. Kayden Legan placed first in the 1600 meter race at 5:46. Krystal Nunez won the 100 meter race at 12.08. Nunez also won the 200 meter race at 27.3 and took first in the triple jump. Hannah-Beth Norman placed first in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:43. Halle Junqueiro won the high jump at five feet even. Emma Harper swept the throws events as she won shot put at 37 feet and discus at 129 feet. Oakdale’s varsity girls won with a final score of 84-51.

Both junior varsity teams picked up wins for the Mustangs as well. The JV boys won 85-51 and the JV girls won 86-43.

Friday, March 13 the varsity teams will take part in the Stanislaus County Meet. That meet is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the next time Oakdale takes on a Valley Oak League opponent will be Wednesday, March 18 at home against Kimball. The meet is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
