Mustangs stay busy with early spring competition

Spring time on campus means an active schedule for Oakdale High School sports teams. The student athletes recently took part in golf, volleyball and tennis. Here is a look at the past week’s action.

 

BOYS GOLF

The 2024 Oakdale 100 Golf Tournament took place this past week. With 21 participating teams from the area, it was Turlock walking away with first place. The Bulldogs shot 406 as a team through 18 holes at Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Bret Harte finished second overall with 411. The Mustangs claimed third place with a team score of 419. As an individual, Denair’s Ethan Gonsalves shot 71 (one under par) and finished on top of the leaderboard.

For the Mustangs, Nolan Harris shot a team best 76. Eduardo Duque shot 81. Two strokes behind him was Robert Bordona at 83. Rounding out the day for Oakdale were Owen Hauselmann (87) and Skyler Mitchell (92).

Wednesday, March 20 Oakdale will travel to Manteca to take on East Union at Manteca Park Golf Course with tee time scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

A trio of matches were played by the Mustangs this past week. Oakdale clashed with Ripon, Livingston and Big Valley High School.

On Monday, March 11 the boys lost to visiting Ripon in three straight sets. Oakdale lost 20-25, 4-25, 16-25. Wednesday evening the boys lost to Livingston 13-25, 17-25, 13-25. Friday night the boys dropped three sets to the Lions 22-25, 16-25, 17-25. Oakdale looks to bounce back this week as they begin Valley Oak League play. On Wednesday night, March 20 the boys are scheduled to travel to Manteca to face East Union with a start time of 6 p.m.

 

BOYS TENNIS

It was a relatively quiet week for the boys tennis team. They defeated Kimball in their season opener on March 7 by a final score of 8-1 and have been off since. They returned to action on Tuesday, March 19 in a match at East Union following The Leader press time. Oakdale continues their road trip as they face Manteca on Wednesday, March 20 at 3:30 p.m.
