The Oakdale High School boys varsity soccer team played a pair of games this past week. Oakdale played both a home and an away Valley Oak League game and earned a split.

On Tuesday, Dec. 18 the boys went to Tracy to play Kimball and earned a 2-1 road win over the Jaguars.

“Kimball is always a tough team and place to play,” said head coach Alfredo Quiroga.

In the road win, Oakdale scored first on a goal by Joel Gonzalez in the first half on an assist by CJ Glow. With the score tied at one in the second half, Eric Anaya scored the game winner late in the contest.

“The kids played well at a difficult place to play so I am very proud of the effort that they put in,” Quiroga said.

Senior goalkeeper Daniel Dubiel had four saves in the contest.

Two days later the Mustangs hosted Sierra but were blanked by the visitors 1-0. Sierra scored the lone goal of the game early in the second half to earn the win. “We did not capitalize on any of our opportunities. We had several chances at the goal, including an empty net attempt that we missed,” said Quiroga. “As a team we need to finish plays and execute when given the opportunity to make a play or a goal.”

The Mustangs will be off for the next few weeks due to the holidays and are scheduled to return on Tuesday, Jan. 8 when they take on Weston Ranch at home. The game is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
