In his second ever varsity football game inside The Corral, Oakdale High senior DeWayne Finney made some special plays. Finney intercepted a long pass at midfield just seven minutes into the game while Oakdale carried a 14-0 lead. Just five minutes later, he ended Aptos High’s best drive of the night when a halfback pass dropped into his arms at Oakdale’s own goal line.

Finney’s two interceptions and stout defensive play throughout the contest made for an easy selection as the Oakdale Leader Athlete of the Week. His exploits on the football field will be vital for the Mustangs when it picks up Valley Oak League play on Sept. 21.
