Tennis Team, Golfers Earn Season One Victories

As season one continues to roll on, so do the wins for Oakdale High School athletes. The boys tennis team picked up a win over Manteca and the golf girls got two wins as well. Here is a breakdown of the events from this past week.

 

BOYS TENNIS

For the boys tennis team Oakdale hosted the Manteca Buffaloes. It was the lone contest for the Mustang tennis boys and against their rivals. The contest took place on Tuesday afternoon, March 2. In a rematch of the Sac-Joaquin Section finals from 2019, a match that Manteca won, the Mustangs got their revenge with a 6-3 victory. In singles action, Caleb Poling earned a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win. Ethan Dingu won 6-1, 6-1 and Alex Tangle swept to a 6-1, 6-2 victory for the Mustangs. The doubles teams continue to shine as the duo of Joey Janssen and Carson Stueve picked up a 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 win. Hunter Olsen and Ryan Krause won via forfeit as did Jacob Sponsel and Jeremiah Janssen. On Thursday, March 4 the boys were scheduled to take on Ripon but the match was postponed. Tuesday, March 9 the boys hit the road to take on Escalon following The Leader’s press time. Thursday, March 11 the boys are scheduled to host Kimball at 3:30 p.m.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Oakdale’s Lady Mustangs hit the links for a pair of road matches. On Monday, March 1 the girls went to Manteca to face the Buffaloes. The girls earned a 250-334 victory. Tori Blanc led the way shooting a 42 on the day in the nine-hole contest. Just two strokes behind was Kaylie Parola, who shot 44. Shealyn Hanrahan carded a 46 while Janelle Velazquez and Meghan McCluney each shot 59 and rounding out the day was Alicia Antinetti at 67. The following day Oakdale went to River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres to take on Central Catholic. Hanrahan went one over par at 28 on the day in Oakdale’s 173-230 win. Parola shot 33. Blanc finished at 33, McCluney had a 38. Kelsey Shatswell completed her day with a 40 and Janelle Velazquez shot a 43.

Oakdale was scheduled to play both Escalon and Ripon Christian this week in league action.
