The 2020 Oakdale Church League softball season is underway at Kerr Park. The nine week season takes place Friday evenings and features a number of churches from Oakdale. Pastor Ryan Poling of The River Christian Community has organized the league since its inception in 2015 and has been using extra precautions for players as well as spectators alike in this COVID-19 era.
All players in the league are actively involved and regular attendees of the churches they represent on the field. They include current and former Oakdale High School baseball and softball players, first time players to the sport and other citizens of Oakdale with or without baseball and softball experience.
“We just look at it as a positive way for our community and churches to bond together during these difficult times,” said Pastor Poling. “We are doing it as a way to lighten spirits, exercise and build comradery among the larger church family in Oakdale. We are thankful that the parks are open and that we can exercise and have fun in this way.”
The league features teams from The River Christian Community, Truth Tabernacle, Mountain View, LifePoint and Calvary Chapel Oakdale. It is a friendly league that incorporates teamwork, sportsmanship and prayer. Games are scheduled for Fridays at 6:30 p.m. and are currently slated to run until Aug. 14.
