A commanding 13-5 rout over El Camino in the first round has Oakdale advancing into the second round of the 2018 CIF Sac-Joaquin Division III playoffs. Oakdale earned the second seed in the eight-team tournament and faced seventh seed El Camino on Thursday, Nov. 1. In the opening round, Oakdale never trailed and got goals from four different players.

Ethan Perry scored two first period goals to help set the tone for the Mustangs. Perry led the team with five goals overall. Also scoring in the first period was his brother Stash to give Oakdale a 3-1 advantage.

In the second period Oakdale found separation from the Eagles when the Mustangs scored five unanswered goals. Chandler Neal scored two goals, Ethan Perry scored two goals and senior Aron Cameron also scored in the second period to put the Mustangs up 8-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Oakdale built their lead up to 11-1 following early third period goals by Cameron, who scored on back-to-back possessions, and Ethan Perry found the net for the final time. In the third period Stash Perry also scored to have Oakdale up 12-3 at the end of the third period. Capping off the team’s scoring was Neal, tallying the final goal with 2:31 remaining in the contest.

“El Camino came out tough and the boys did a good job of responding,” head coach Diane Kline said. “They were able to set the pace of the game and capitalize on the opportunities.”

On Tuesday, Nov. 3 Oakdale traveled to Modesto to take on third seed Nevada Union at Johansen High School. The contest took place following The Leader’s press time. Should the team be victorious they would take on the winner of top seed Christian Brothers and Sonora on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Woodcreek High School. Scheduled start time for the Division III Championship is 11:30 a.m.
