Basketball’s G League Coming To Stockton

The Sacramento Kings have been a National Basketball Association franchise since 1985. The Kings selected Marvin Bagley III with the number two overall pick in this past week’s draft and the fan base is excited about it.

“He was the player that I wanted to see join the team. I believe he had the most upside out of everyone else,” said Kings fan Charles Lang.

Lang, who lives in Stockton, will have more to cheer about as the team has relocated its ‘G’ League team from Reno to Stockton.

The team formally known as the Reno Bighorns, will don the purple, black and grey at Stockton Arena later this year. Stockton is one of 27 cities to have a G League team. With the franchise in transition, the team has yet to announce its head coach or build a roster. Those and other front office decisions will be made in the very near future as the team will soon hold open tryouts for aspiring players and in October the NBA G League draft will be held. Following that, the season will open in November.

This past spring, hundreds of people showed up for the team’s job fair where the organization hired nearly 200 people for various positions from sales to concessions.

“Stockton is a great city, and an excited city for basketball,” said Dustin Toms, the team’s Vice President of Business Operations, speaking during a presentation at the Stockton Arena.
