Vera ‘Ginny’ Jamison Zwald Starr, 78, died Friday, Aug. 23 of a brain tumor.

She was born to Harvey and Dorothy Jamison in Tahlequah, Okla. She, her sister Hazel Bruton and her brother Gerald, moved to Oakdale in 1942. She attended Eastside School and Oakdale High School.

She lived in Oakdale until 2006 and then moved to Katy, Texas.

She was a longtime member of the Oakdale Free Methodist Church during the 1960s and ’70s. She was a founding member of the Living Hope congregation in Oakdale prior to her move to Texas.

Mrs. Zwald Starr was active in various civic, business, and Christian organizations throughout her life. She worked for Hershey’s from 1965 to 1975. She was the owner of “Diet Center” in Oakdale from 1988-1993. She was the Oakdale Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association Woman of the Year in 1991.

With her late husband, John David Zwald, she traveled to many countries. Her favorite vacation spot was Lahaina on the island of Maui.

She also enjoyed RVing with her last husband, the late Charles Starr, with a group of friends of similar interests. Summers were spent on her houseboat ‘The Chief’ on Lake McClure.

More than anything, she loved being surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her children, Susan (Tony) Felix, Kathy (Mike) Mate, all of Katy, Texas, Steve (Tina) Hinton of Oakdale; sister, Hazel (Rex) Bruton of Oakdale; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John David Zwald, Charles Starr; brother, Gerald Jamison; and parents, Harvey and Dorothy Jamison.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Living Hope Christian Fellowship at Highway 120 and River Road.
