STEVEN (STEVE) ECHELBERGER
ECHELBERGER K

Steven (Steve) Echelberger passed away February 24, 2018 peacefully with family and friends at his side. Steve was born in Placerville, CA and spent most of his life in Oakdale, graduating Oakdale High School, class of ’78. Steve enlisted in the US Navy in 1986 and served until 1990. He then joined the workforce with United Airlines and dedicated 29 years to the company.
Steve enjoyed being outdoors. Hunting, fishing, camping, and boating brought him life’s greatest pleasures; pleasures he passed down to his kids and his first grandchild. When he wasn’t up in the mountains, or at the lake, you could usually find him out on the open road riding his Harley surrounded by his friends or on an airplane traveling the country or the rest of the world. Traveling was the ultimate form of relaxation for him.
Steve was everyone’s friend; there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for anyone that needed him. He was a tremendous son, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother.
He made the world’s best waffles.
Steve is survived by his mother, Karen (Virgil) Nielsen; father, Mel (Charlotte) Echelberger; brother, Doug (Julie) Echelberger; sister, Jill (Eric) Gust; daughter, Dana Echelberger; son, Steven Echelberger; his greatest joys, his grandsons, Julien and Noah Echelberger; and his best friend and mother to his children, Lavern Davis.
A memorial service has been scheduled for March 5 at 10 a.m. at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, 830 West F Street, Oakdale, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
