Ruben M. Castaneda, 84, of Modesto, died Sunday, Jan. 30 with his wife and family by his side.

He was born in Sonora, Mexico and moved to Oakdale in 1952.

Mr. Castaneda lived in Oakdale for more than 50 years and had worked for the Sierra Railroad, Hunt-Wesson Foods and Oakdale Poultry Plant for almost 30 years. When it closed down, he then moved to Louis-Rich of Modesto and worked there for another 10 years until he retired.

He raised eight children in Oakdale, who all graduated from Oakdale High School.

A viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, Modesto. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, also at the chapel.
