Miriam Ardette Percy, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 13 at her Oakdale home.

She was born in Newton (Jasper County), IA.

Ms. Percy received her B.A. and teaching credential from San Jose State University. She taught elementary school for 30 years before retiring from the Cupertino Union School District in 1994. She then moved to Oakdale, where she continued to work as a substitute teacher for an additional 15 years.

She was a member of River Oak Grace Community Church, she led Bible studies, was involved in MOPS (Mothers of Pre Schoolers), and other community efforts.

She is survived by her son, David Percy of Rocklin; stepdaughters, Karen Percy of Roseville and Kristin Calaff of Seattle, WA; brother, Darrell Klauenberg of Macedonia, OH; cousins, Charlene Merritt of Hurst, TX, Lorna Valentine of Newton, IA, and Valjean Brandt of Cincinnati, OH; her special “surrogate” family, Calvin, Maxine, and NeChele Rucker of Gilroy; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Percy; and her parents, Sadie Beatrice Klauenberg and Floyd William Klauenberg.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23 at River Oak Grace Community Church, Oakdale.
