Mary Moss, 89, passed away Monday, Aug. 12 in her home in Cameron Park, Ca.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Mary was born in Heflin, Alabama on Sept. 7, 1923 to Hazel and Dexter Jackson.

She received her Bachelors Degree in Sociology from UCLA and continued on to receive a Masters Degree in Speech and Hearing from Stanislaus State University.

She married Sandy Moss on Dec. 30, 1959 in Carson City, Nevada. They spent many happy years on their almond ranch in Escalon.

Mrs. Moss loved her careers as an English Teacher and as a Speech Therapist at Dent Elementary. After retirement she continued to dedicate her time to helping others and received recognition for her many hours of service with Haven’s Women Center in Modesto. She was active in AAUW and local arts organizations. She enjoyed nature, art, traveling, reading, tennis, crossword puzzles, gardening and mostly, spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Sandy Moss; her two daughters, Robyn and Kristi McNelly; and her granddaughter, Nicole Scheunemann.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2172 Kiernan Ave., Modesto. Reception to follow.

Her ashes will be laid to rest in Burwood Cemetery, Escalon.
