Kay “Nan” Wearin was born April 3, 1930 in New Castle, Colorado to Shaphat and Minnie Edith Dwire. She passed peacefully of a sudden stroke on April 12 at Doctors Hospital in Modesto. She was a long time resident of Oakdale where she and her husband Bill raised two children; Bill (Ellen) and Carol (Ron) Arnold. Nan helped raise her five grandchildren; Matt (Jamie), Morgan (Heather), Amanda (Aron) Stepp, Shawnda (Daniel) Green and Kristi (Joey) Novotny as well as niece Alisen (Caleb) Payette-Wardlaw. She had 14 great-grandchildren; Grace, Kyndall, Eli Green, Kyla, Avery, J.J., Ruby Novotny, Payton Wearin, Madeline, Emily, Wyatt, Bailey Stepp and nephews Huxley and Roland Wardlaw.
Kay was a homemaker who loved to garden and quilt. It was not unusual to find a baby goat in her kitchen being bottle fed. She loved her dog Rosie and made the best beans around. As an active member of Oakdale Saddle Club she and Papa would dance the night away. Her door and heart were always open and her love was unconditional. Nan was an incredible woman with a strong moral character, work ethic and a quick wit and smile. She and Papa showed everyone what a marriage should look like and what true love really means. She made this world a better place and we were blessed to have her. She will be missed.
Services will be in Merced at Evergreen Cemetery on Monday, April 22 at 10 a.m. Donations may be made to Community Hospice or the Alexander Cohen Hospice House.
