John Arata, 96, of Modesto died at Oak Valley Care Center on Sunday, June 13.

He was a native of Modesto, born April 14, 1914 and he lived there for 40 years. He also lived in Oakdale for 40 years.

Mr. Arata was a psychiatric technician for the State of California for 13 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his step-daughter, Virginia Guertin of Saratoga and niece, Dorothy Maddox of Pleasanton.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Amelia Zaro and Louise Mitchell.

Private services were held.

Oakdale-Riverbank Memorial Chapels in charge of arrangements.
