James Michael ‘Jim’ Pollard, 62, died Saturday, March 6 in Modesto with family at his side.

He was born in Van Nuys and raised in Oakdale from age 4. After graduating from Oakdale High School in 1966, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam as a combat engineer.

He had been a resident of Oakdale since 1991, and was previously a resident of Modesto, where he was a City of Modesto firefighter retiring after 29 years.

Since retiring, he enjoyed family, fishing and traveling. He will be missed as a great husband, father, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janice of Oakdale; daughter, Kristi (Danny) Griffitts of Modesto; son, Jason Pollard of South Lake Tahoe; brother, Joseph (Ginny) of Dover, NH; grandchildren, Breanna and Alyssa Griffitts; niece, Gwynne Pollard of Dover, NH and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 at La Loma Grace Brethren Church, 1315 La Loma Ave., Modesto.
