Evelyn Virginia (Pinkston) Shelton, 72, died Thursday, March 10 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House, Hughson after a three-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Coleman, Texas. She spent most of her married life in Arizona, except for a short period in Texas, where she lost her 18-year-old son in an auto accident one Thanksgiving Day. She lost her husband within the next year to heart problems.

She returned to Arizona and worked for the State of Arizona School Transportation Department as a school bus driver for District 1, Yuma, AZ.

Mrs. Shelton spent the last year of her life in California, where she was near her sister and brother. She resided at Oak Valley Care Center in Oakdale.

She loved her children, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her biggest joy. She enjoyed cooking and contributed to many church bake sales. She also enjoyed reading and crafts. She had a wonderful personality.

She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Gale (Bruce) Melton, Doris Ann Groak; sister, Shirley Jean Tooker; brother, Ernest Kenneth Pinkston; five granddaughters; one grandson; five great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Daniel ‘Danny’ Shelton; son, Herman Daniel Shelton, Jr.; infant grandson, Colby Wayne Dimmick; father, Jessie Joseph Pinkston; mother, Emma Gertrude (Briggs, Taylor) Pinkston; sisters, Lorraine Estelle Taylor (infant), Betty Sue Gomez, Mary Elizabeth Holmes; and brother, Donnie Joe Pinkston.

Private interment.

Oakdale Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
