Daryl Boyd “Pawpaw” Brown, 78, passed on June 23, 2022 after a brief hospitalization. Born in Modesto, CA, on February 1, 1944 to parents Louis “Pete” Brown and Rose Marolyn Anglin Brown. Daryl grew up in Riverbank and graduated from Oakdale High School in 1962. Shortly after, he joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY as a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. It was there that he met and married Madeline Carobene, and after they had their first child they moved back to California, settling in the Santa Clara area. Daryl spent time as an announcer for Mission City Youth Football for games and bingo, umpired for Briarwood Little League, worked on the chain gang for Wilcox High Football, and was a member of the Wilcox Dads & Grads Booster Club. He worked as a mechanic at Owens Corning Fiberglass in Santa Clara for 40 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed going to casinos, attending his grand and great-grandkids sporting events, sketching, working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with his family.

Daryl is survived by brother David (Regina) Stanley of Modesto, sons Tim (Gina) Brown of Escalon and Joe (Gina) Brown of Oakdale, daughter Melissa (Bryan) Conroy of Riverbank, grandchildren Ashley (Drew) Walker and Megan (Pete) Engstrand of Escalon, Matthew Brown of Oakdale, Joseph, CatieMaree, and Lucas Estep of Riverbank, and seven great grandchildren. Preceded in death by sister Joyce (Dick) Clark, and by Madeline, his beloved wife of 56 years. Daryl and Madeline will be interred together at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon.
