Bobbi Hansen Torres
Torres

Nov. 11, 1935 – October 19, 2014

Resident of Oakdale

Our dear Bobbi passed unexpectedly on the afternoon of Sunday, October 19th, 2014. Born in Berkeley, CA, Bobbi was the second of five children born to Will and Grace Hansen.  She called San Leandro home in her youth and was a proud alumna of San Leandro High School’s Class of 1953.  During her long and varied working life in the Bay Area, she worked 23 years for Western Electric Company,  as well as for Computer Currents magazine and Super Ice of San Leandro.  The highlight of her career, however, was as the proprietor, chief cook and bottle washer at Gracie’s Mutt Hut, a classic roadside diner she established in the Twain Harte area in the 1980s.

Bobbi’s family and friends were her greatest treasures.  She is survived by son Steve MacLeod (Jennifer Hall MacLeod), daughter Patty MacLeod (Ted Foster), grandchildren Dylan Lamattina (Jackie), Stephani and Zackary MacLeod, and brand-new great-grandson Jace Lamattina.  Her family also includes sisters Claire Curley Flowers (Fred), Kathie Wormelduff (Gary), Peggy Simi (Alan Cox), sister-in-law Tina Hansen, aunts Lois Lupercio and Florence Knutson (Cub), and eight nieces and nephews.  She was a great aunt many times over and leaves a multitude of cousins, as well the much-loved “bonus” children and grandchildren her late husband Ruben Torres brought to the family.  She was a loyal and attentive friend to many, many lucky folks from all stages of her life, including her dear friend,  Joan Driver of Modesto.

She was preceded on the road to heaven by her parents; by Ruben Torres, her husband of 31 years; and by her beloved brother David Hansen.  She had a major soft spot in her heart for all creatures great and small; there was quite a crowd of loving and loyal dogs from days gone by waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge when she crossed!

A celebration of Bobbi’s life will be held in Oakdale on Saturday the 25th of October. Contact family members for details.

Bobbi would have been delighted to know that you honored her memory with a donation in her name to your favorite animal charity.  In particular, she supported Wags and Whiskers Rescue of Modesto (www.wagsandwhiskersrescue.org) and Muttville of San Francisco (www.muttville.org).
