Waterford Man Arrested In Connection With Friday Robbery

A mid-afternoon robbery on Friday, April 3 resulted in a pair of arrests, with a Waterford man and Oakdale woman both taken into custody.

According to Oakdale Police, at approximately 3 p.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery in the area of the Oakdale Market in the 300 block of East I Street.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted the victim, who described meeting an Asian male and a black male to purchase an item of property. During the transaction, the suspects stole the victim’s money while brandishing a firearm. The suspects then ran from the scene.

Witnesses in the area were able to point out a nearby apartment where the suspects ran into. Oakdale Police contacted the resident of the apartment, identified as Jessica Avelar, in the 300 block of East I Street. Police said she was not cooperative with the investigation and refused police entry into the residence.

Police obtained a warrant for the apartment and arrested Anthony Phan, 19, of Waterford, as the primary suspect of the robbery. A firearm and replica firearms were recovered from the apartment.

Phan was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for Robbery and Brandishing a Firearm.

Avelar, 38, of Oakdale was also booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for Accessory to a Crime, Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sale and Illegal Sales of Marijuana.
