Valley Home School Math teacher Cory Reid held a very informative meeting regarding the new approach to Mathematics at the sixth grade level. Common Core, as it is known, will be more hands-on and in-depth. Rather than rushing through each lesson in order to meet standards, teachers will be able to slow down a bit in an effort to ensure that each student is learning and understanding the concept. Tests will now be taken online and are reported to be very difficult. Although there are challenges ahead we have high hopes that Common Core will bring positive results. We are so grateful that we have such a dedicated staff of progressive minded teachers at Valley Home School!

Our “Love Valley Home Day” is just a few weeks away. We are excited as the big event draws closer. This event will actually take place over a period of two days on April 5th and 6th. Chairperson Rolanda Des Rossiers Lewis encourages everyone to come out and work together. We will be cleaning roadsides, cutting weeds, working in the park and much more! Please mark the dates on your calendar and bring along your rakes, shovels, weed eaters, and any other tools that might be used and let’s work to tidy up our little community. A planning meeting will be announced soon so that anyone interested in helping to plan this special event can attend and share ideas. More information to follow.

Valley Home 4-H President Garret Bryhni is extremely busy these days. As a senior he is playing his last season of baseball at Oakdale High. Garret is very talented and will no doubt help his team make this a great season! Garret is also busy with his fellow 4-H officers planning upcoming 4-H events including the annual rodeo food booth and the annual community Easter celebration in Valley Home. Thank you for all of your hard work Garret and we wish for you and your baseball team an awesome season!
