The regular meeting of the Valley Home Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) is tonight (April 21) at 6:30 p.m. at the Harold Pope School library at 4600 Texas Ave. All residents are encouraged to attend, as this is a meeting especially for residents of the Valley Home area who are interested in what is happening in the community and/or interested in doing something for the community. The agenda for tonight’s meeting includes reports from representatives from the county Animal Services, Public Works and Sheriff departments, from Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District and California Highway Patrol and a full-fledged discussion about the interest, if any, that Valley Home residents have about the historic library building — should it be saved and ideas for its use. This discussion has been continuing for many months and is nearing an end and “powers to be” would like to know what interest is there in this building? There is so much to talk about so you do not want to miss tonight’s meeting.

Valley Home residents and other old time movie fans are in for an afternoon of comedy and fast paced fun when they attend the 1925 Silent Movie production of “Seven Chances” offered at St. John/St. Luke’s Lutheran Church on this coming Saturday, April 24th. Step back into the wonderful era of old time movie fun and an afternoon of movie theater music, which will accompany the film, provided by Dave Moreno at the church’s “four rack” Robert Morton electric organ. Matias Bombal will also return to share his expertise on the silent comedy and a musical offering of the era. The film stars Buster Keaton in one of his funniest films.
There is no admission charge for the fun event, however, a free-will offering will be appreciated. Following the movie presentation, an ice cream and homemade pie social will be held in the church basement meeting hall. Take advantage of a great opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of movie fun and an opportunity to visit with friends and neighbors! The ice cream is free and the pie is priced at $2.50 a slice. Word is in addition, there will also be nine-inch pies available for purchase and take home to enjoy later.
We can look forward to an afternoon of great comedy and one of the funniest chases in film history as Buster Keaton, portraying a young man who stands to inherit a large fortune if he marries before a set time expires. He tries to find a bride, any bride, with no luck until the ladies discover that a fortune awaits them as his bride. Pandemonium erupts, and the chase begins with Buster running for his life as hundreds of brides-to-be all dressed in white, aren’t about to let their fortune get away.

Saturday found Beverley Berridge, Glenn and Laura Burghardt and other members of the Oakdale Garden Club manning a Garden Club booth in front of the Tractor Supply Co. in Oakdale as part of the stores DEMO DAYS sale. In addition to showing photographs of various Oakdale Garden Club activities, members offered viewers an opportunity to guess the number of sunflower seeds in a jar, gathered from member Grace Griggs’ plant that towered two stories in height in her garden. The winner took home a prize of a beautiful Bougainvillea plant.
