What started as a routine traffic enforcement stop on Friday morning in Oakdale subsequently resulted in two arrests with multiple charges against the driver and passenger.

According to Oakdale Police, on Friday, Jan. 10 at about 8:45 a.m., an Oakdale Police Department officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the 300 block of East F Street on a Honda Civic for expired registration and no front license plate. The officer contacted the driver and passenger who were later identified as Joaquin Jesus McKenzie, 36, of Empire and Ashley Marie Chavan, 33, of Oakdale.

During the course of the investigation it was determined the driver, McKenzie is a felon and was in possession of a firearm and Chavan initially gave false identification to the officer.

Both subjects were arrested at the scene without incident. McKenzie was arrested for Convicted Felon in possession of Firearm, Probation Violation, and Driving on Suspended License. Chavan was arrested for two Oakdale felony warrants, Possession Drug Paraphernalia, Personate another character and False ID to a Peace Officer.

Both subjects were booked at Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charges. They remained in jail in lieu of bail as of Saturday morning, with court dates pending.
