A multi-agency effort diffused a potentially volatile situation north of Oakdale on Monday afternoon, March 11 with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad responding to take possession of some suspicious devices.

The incident occurred along Rodden Road, just off Highway 120, east of the Highway 120-River and Rodden Road intersection. Authorities were investigating reports of possible explosive devices linked to a van that had been seen in the area, appearing to be broken down, over the last several days.

A sheriff’s deputy on scene said the bomb squad was called in as a precautionary measure and were able to find and cap the suspicious items. There were no injuries and the deputy said it didn’t appear that there would be any arrests made in connection with the incident.

Fire, police and CHP personnel all responded to the scene late afternoon Monday and motorists were briefly detoured from the Rodden Road corridor while the items were cleared from the scene.
