Family, friends and the community joined near the banks of the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry on Friday evening, March 22 for a candlelight vigil in memory of Matilda Ortiz, 5, whose body was recovered by searchers on Wednesday afternoon March 20. She slipped on rocks and fell in to the rushing waters on Sunday, March 17. Here, father Roberto Ortiz and mother Marissa Vasquez prepare for the dove release at the vigil, which also included music and a chance for all to mourn the loss of the child to the raging river waters.
