An Oakdale man was arrested in connection with recklessly discharging a firearm late Thursday afternoon, Aug. 30.

Oakdale Police responded to a report of a neighborhood disturbance about 4 p.m. Thursday, after receiving 9-1-1 calls of a disturbance involving gunfire in the 20 block of Willow Glen Avenue. Officers responded to the area and contacted construction workers who were running towards them upon their arrival. The workers reported that a man approached one of the workers, brandished a handgun, and then discharged the weapon into the air. After firing the handgun, the man went into a nearby house. Witnesses pointed out the house to officers on scene.

Officers subsequently contacted Kenneth Edwin Johnson, 66, at his residence in the Willow Glen neighborhood. He was identified as the man who had fired the gun into the air. A loaded handgun with a large capacity magazine was recovered during the investigation.

There were no injuries or property damage as a result of the incident.

Johnson was arrested and transported to the Stanislaus County Jail where he was booked for alleged violations of 246.3(a) P.C. Discharge of Firearm with Gross Negligence and 32310 P.C. Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine. Both charges are felonies.
