Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 9-17-25

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Sept. 9 through Monday, Sept. 15. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, SEPT. 15

Congratulations to Engineer Dominic DeSantis for 20 years of service to the Modesto Fire Department.

Battalion 2: BC Gerry Laird and CA Joe Zurilgen are assigned to the Dillon Fire.

Crews completed Monday checks across the battalion.

Several meetings were held at Station 26 including leadership group, labor management, and standards of coverage.

Battalion 5: Battalion 5 as well as other MCS Admin staff attended the swearing in and badge pinning of the newly appointed Oakdale Police Chief Jason Grogan. Congratulations, Chief Grogan!

 

SUNDAY, SEPT. 14

Battalion 2: BC Gerry Laird and CA Joe Zurilgen are assigned to the Dillon Fire.

Quint 22 trained on aerial operations and building construction throughout the battalion.

12:44 a.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, Engine 9, Engine27, Engine 28, Quint 22, BC1, and BC5 responded to the 5700 block of Prince Norman Way in the City of Riverbank for a structure fire. Engine 26 arrived to find nothing showing and began to investigate. Engine 26 confirmed negative fire and requested a Stanislaus County Sheriff Deputy to continue to the scene. The balance of the response was canceled.

Battalion 5: 1:30 p.m. – Brush 28, OES4615, OES4617, OES4618 and BC5 were dispatched to assist Cal Fire TCU with a vegetation fire on Rock Creek Road in Calaveras County on Sunday afternoon. All crews were assigned to various divisions for fire suppression and assisted in supporting hoselines in steep and rugged terrain. The fire was contained at 24 acres.

 

SATURDAY, SEPT. 13

Battalion 2: Crews trained on various skills for Saturday drill day.

1:42 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to a three-vehicle accident on Patterson Road near Howard Avenue. One person reported minor injuries. Riverbank PD is investigating the accident.

Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Engine 28 and Engine 27 trained with Water Tender 27 to provide a rural water supply.

Engine 28, Engine 26, Battalion 5, and Battalion 2 attended Chief Spani’s retirement celebration. Chief Paul Spani spent 40 years serving the citizens of Stanislaus County. We wish Chief Spani a long and healthy retirement.

 

FRIDAY, SEPT. 12

Several companies with Modesto and Stanislaus Fire trained with probationary firefighters at Station17.

Battalion 2: Chief Laird and Captain Zurilgen are both still deployed to the Dillion Fire in the Klamath National Forest. Chief Laird is working as a Safety Officer, and Captain Zurilgen is working as the Base Camp Manager.

Battalion 5: 9:50 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Engine 26, Engine 7, Engine 21, Truck 1, Medic 1, Battalion 5, and Battalion 2 responded to the report of a working structure fire in the 1200 block of Poplar Street in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene with smoke showing from a single-story residence. Upon further investigation crews found a kitchen on fire in the back of the residence and initiated an offensive attack, quickly confining the fire to the kitchen area. The house was filled with smoke and while conducting a search, crews found two dogs and one cat and brought them to the front of the residence where they initiated care on the animals. One dog did survive, and Red Cross was requested to assist with two adults and one child. Companies remained on scene for roughly two hours for overhaul.

7:45 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded for a potential structure fire on Lee Avenue in Oakdale. Engine 27 arrived on scene to a single-story apartment complex with nothing showing. Upon further investigation crews found a small fire confined inside the oven with light smoke in an apartment. Engine 27 remained on scene to help evacuate the smoke.

 

THURSDAY, SEPT. 11

Several stations conducted a ceremony in honor of the sacrifices that were made and those that were lost on 9/11/2001.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Crews participated in 9/11 ceremonies at their respective stations.

Engine 29 trained on pumping evolutions with OES 4615.

Battalion 5 attended the Oakdale Fire District Board Meeting in Knights Ferry.

 

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 10

Members of MST continue to assist with the Lightning Complex Fire in Tuolumne County as members of the incident management team.

The Fuels Management Program members worked on a fuel reduction project in Oakdale.

Battalion 2: 1:27 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to Atchison and Third Street for a vehicle versus motorcycle incident. The motorcyclist sustained traumatic injuries and was given ALS care by an E26 firefighter paramedic before being taken to a local trauma center. The Riverbank Police Department is investigating the accident.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Engine 29 completed apparatus checks and station maintenance at Station 30. They also trained on pre-trip inspections.

12:40 p.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to East F Street for a vehicle vs. pedestrian. Crews arrived on scene to find a person in a wheelchair that was struck in the parking lot by a vehicle. Firefighters and Medics treated one patient for minor injuries and transported them to a local hospital. OPD is investigating the accident.

 

TUESDAY, SEPT. 9

Battalion 2: BC Laird and Captain Zurilgen assigned to Dillon Fire.

Engine 23 and Quint 22 trained with probationary firefighters on assignments from taskbooks.

BC 2 completed supplies run to stations.

Battalion 5: 2:41 p.m. – MCS units were dispatched to a report of a working residential structure fire on West J Street in Oakdale on Tuesday afternoon. When Engine 27 arrived on scene they found a two-story duplex with fire emanating from the garage with a residence directly above, with fire extending to the second floor. Crews initiated the fire attack and entered the structure and attacked the fire. It was contained in approximately ten minutes. The Stanislaus County FIU was on scene conducting the investigation.
