The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Aug. 4 through Monday, Aug. 10. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, AUG. 10
Battalion 2: Brush 23 continues to be deployed on the Gann Fire in TCU as part of Strike team XST4201C.
Battalion Chief Josh Tucker continues to be deployed on fires in Oregon.
Congratulations to firefighter Mason Manly and firefighter Dylan Rosa for completing seven-month testing.
Monday apparatus checks were completed across the battalion.
Battalion 5: Crews trained in their territories on firefighting strategies and tactics.
5:59 p.m. – Brush 3, Water Tender 6 and Battalion 5 responded to assist Ripon on a vegetation fire along the river on Stockton Avenue. The fire was contained to about 2.5 acres in approximately 45 minutes.
SUNDAY, AUG. 9
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker remains assigned to an overhead assignment in Oregon.
Brush 23 and Captain McManus remain assigned to the Gann incident in TCU.
Battalion 5: Engine 29 trained on the Stokes Basket and victim packaging.
6 a.m. – Engine 29 and Battalion 5 responded to Tulloch Lake Road and Highway 108 to assist TCU with a landing zone (LZ).
12:22 p.m. – Engine 7, Brush 28, OES4617, OES4618, Grass 23, Water Tender 27, WT23 and Battalion 5 responded to a vegetation fire threatening structures in the 10000 block of 26 Mile Road. B28 arrived on scene and reported a quarter-acre vegetation fire with multiple out buildings and a metal barn threatened. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire, keeping it out of all the exposures. Crews remained on scene for over an hour for mop up.
1:50 p.m. – Engine 9 and Battalion 5 responded to the 10000 block of 26 Mile Road for an EMS call. Engine 9 arrived on scene to find a single patient who suffered trauma after being trampled by a cow. Engine 9 immediately began ALS care on the patient along with the help of Oak Valley Ambulance. The patient was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hospital for further care.
SATURDAY, AUG. 8
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker remains assigned to an overhead assignment in Oregon.
Brush 23 and Captain McManus remain assigned to the Gann incident in TCU. They were assigned on a 24-hour work period. All doing well.
Crews throughout the battalion trained on various topics and worked on skill signoffs for task books.
E26 attended a community splash event in Riverbank.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Engine 27 trained with their Fire Explorer on saw operation and maintenance.
Engine 29 trained on Rope Systems.
Engine 27 attended the Saturday Morning Market in Oakdale, handing out fire helmets to kids and shopping local vendors.
Engine 27 stopped by Jordy’s 4th birthday party.
Captain Joe Spani and Engineer Parker English were presented with their 5 years of service award to the citizens of Modesto.
4 p.m. – Engine 27 responded for a lift assist in Oakdale, when the crew arrived they identified the patient was having a medical emergency and immediately started BLS care with the assistance of Engine 28. Engine 27 assisted Oak Valley with patient care while enroute to Doctors Medical Center.
Engine 28 responded to East F Street in Oakdale in front of Raley’s Shopping Center for a sheared fire hydrant.
FRIDAY, AUG. 7
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker remains assigned to an overhead assignment in Oregon.
Brush 23 and Captain McManus remain assigned to the Gann incident in TCU. They were on a 24-hour rest period.
Battalion 5: 6:45 p.m. – Engine 28 responded to a wire down call; Engine 28 arrived to find a power line in the roadway. Engine 28 secured the scene until the arrival of PG&E.
THURSDAY, AUG. 6
Battalion 2: Brush 23 continues to be deployed on the Gann Fire in TCU as part of Strike Team XST4201C.
Battalion Chief Josh Tucker continues to be deployed on fires in Oregon.
Battalion 5: Crews completed company level training.
Members from MST participated in a presentation by Tablet Command.
Engine 28 trained on forcible entry at Station 28’s new door prop.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 5
Battalion 2: Brush 23 continues to be deployed on the Gann Fire in TCU as part of Strike Team XST4201C.
Battalion 2 companies met at Station 22 for meetings and some group RIC training.
2:13 a.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 9, Quint 22, BC5, BC1 and M1 responded to a working structure fire on Third Street in Riverbank. Crews arrived on scene of a vacant boarded up house with smoke and flames showing. Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Battalion 5: Crews trained in their territories on firefighting strategies and tactics, and conducted cleaning and maintenance at their stations.
Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29 and Battalion 5 trained on MCIs in Station 28’s portable classroom. The rural areas and two-lane highways that are prevalent in the territory of these engine companies and tend to produce vehicle accidents with multiple patients. Training in these skills keeps them ready for any incident.
7:02 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to a solo vehicle accident on Stearns Road and Sierra Road in Oakdale. The driver drove off the road, over railroad tracks and crashed into a fence and burst into flames starting a vegetation fire. The driver was uninjured and was able to get out of the car. CHP was on scene conducting the investigation.
TUESDAY, AUG. 4
Battalion 2: Brush 23 reported they worked on structure defense on the Gann Fire in TCU as part of Strike team XST4201C.
Battalion 2 companies participated in National Night Out events across the district.
Battalion 5: Crews trained in their territories on firefighting strategies and tactics.
Crews in Battalion 5 participated in several National Night Out block parties.
