The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 21 through Monday, July 27. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JULY 27
Crews remain assigned to Cal Fire Tuolumne County Unit (TCU) for The Dove Incident, which occurred over this past weekend. We have crews on the fire line actively helping with control of the fire as well as Incident Management Team members who are assisting with Planning and Logistics for the incident.
Battalion 2: Crews spent the day doing Monday apparatus checks.
Battalion 5: Fire crews conducted in depth weekly apparatus and equipment checks of all front-line equipment.
Personnel performed apparatus bay and grounds maintenance of their respective fire stations.
Engine 29 conducted FMA training of target hazards in their first due area. Crews often regularly familiarize themselves with these target hazards to ensure they can offer quick and efficient response to emergencies in the communities we serve. Engine 29 walked through the Army Corps of Engineers maintenance yard in Knights Ferry.
SUNDAY, JULY 26
BC Rice and Beauchemin were released from strike team 4200C and returned safely.
Battalion 2: BC Tucker continues to be deployed to the Biscar Fire in Lassen County.
Battalion 5: Crews trained on hose evolutions, ground school presentations of equipment and BK radio use.
Brush 28, and Captain Brazil responded as part of a task force to the Dove Fire in Tuolumne County.
SATURDAY, JULY 25
Battalion 2: BC Tucker continues to be deployed to the Biscar Fire in Lassen County.
Battalion 2 companies conducted a variety of Saturday drills.
5:52 p.m. – Engine 23, Engine 24, Quint 22, and BC2 responded to Yosemite Boulevard at Missouri Avenue in Waterford for a vehicle accident. Three people were transported to hospitals by ambulance.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed Saturday drills.
10:49 a.m. – Water Rescue 28, Engine 27 and BC5 responded to Woodward Reservoir for a subject in distress in the lake. The subject was removed by Stanislaus Sheriff’s Department deputies, uninjured, and the balance of the response was canceled.
FRIDAY, JULY 24
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 companies completed rotating through quarterly EMS training today.
Brush 23 and four members of Stanislaus Consolidated continue to be assigned to the Chute Fire as part of XST4200C. As well as support initial attack response for the area.
BC Tucker continues to be deployed as a Staging Area Manager on the Biscar Fire in Lassen County.
9:45 a.m. – Engines 9, 21, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 31, 33, Quint 18, Water Tender 23, 27, 38, 41, 46, Dozer 17, BC’s 2, 3, and 5 responded to a commercial working fire on Lake Road in Waterford. The fire was quickly upgraded due to the rural area adding several water tenders. The fire consumed a large area of stacked wood and miscellaneous farming equipment.
Battalion 5: Crews attended quarterly EMS training.
Multiple MST units were dispatched to a commercial working structure fire on Lake Road, outside the community of Waterford. Upon the arrival of the first companies, multiple large piles of debris, plastic and pallets were on fire. Additional Engines and Water Tenders were dispatched as firefighters worked to contain the fire. Crews drafted water from an on-site pond and from a nearby canal to fight the fire. It took crews two hours to stop the forward progress of the fire. Dozer 17 was requested and was utilized to spread out the product and allow firefighters to fully extinguish it. Crews mopped up the fire for 5 hours before clearing.
THURSDAY, JULY 23
Battalion 2: BC Rice and BC Beauchemin along with Strike Team XST 4200C were assigned to Division P on the Chute Fire and then reassigned to Initial Attack on the nearby Backwoods Fire in Nevada County.
Battalion 5: Crews attended quarterly EMS training.
Battalion 5 attended the monthly Oakdale Fire Protection District meeting.
1:59 p.m. – Water Rescue 26, WR28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 to Jacob Myers Park for a water rescue. Crews arrived on scene to find one adult standing in the river holding onto a raft with a juvenile inside. Firefighters accessed the subjects from River Cove Drive, removed them from the river and walked them to safety. All subjects were uninjured and refused medical treatment.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 22
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker deployed to the Biscar fire on an overhead assignment.
E26 trained on acting engineer taskbook signoffs. Focus was on cone courses.
Battalion 5: Battalion Chief Rice and Battalion Chief Beauchemin are assigned to the Chute Incident burning in Yuba/Nevada County with strike team 4200C from Stanislaus County. The fire is burning in steep, inaccessible terrain that continues to challenge suppression efforts.
Firefighter D. Gutierrez has been assigned to an overhead position on the Coyote Incident burning near Prineville, Oregon.
Engine 27 conducted ground ladder training at Fire Station 27.
Engine 29 completed weekly station maintenance at Station 30.
3:18 p.m. – Engine 28 and BC5 provided mutual aid to the Farmington Fire District for a structure fire in the 6500 block of Mobley Road. Crews assisted with fire suppression and overhaul.
TUESDAY, JULY 21
Battalion 2: Brush 23 crew worked a 24-hour shift on the Chute Fire working in Division P.
Battalion 2 met with all B shift Battalions for our monthly Battalion training.
1:08 p.m. – Battalion 2, Engine 26, Engine 9, Engine 7, Engine 27, Quint 22, Engine 3, Engine 11, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a working structure fire in the area of Claribel and Claus roads. First arriving unit found two burn piles. E26 was able to handle and the balance was canceled.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 conducted training on a vacant boarded up structure on Oakdale. The crew focused on building construction and forcing HUD windows.
7:10 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded to a potential structure fire on Goldsborough Drive in Oakdale Rural. Engine 28 arrived on scene with nothing showing. After further investigation crews found the smoke alarm going off due to a faulty detector set off by a whole house fan. Crews remained on scene to assist the homeowner with resetting the alarm.
5:07 a.m. – OES 4615, B28, 4617 and WT27 along with Cal Fire TCU responded to a call on Highway108 east of Kennedy Road. Crews arrived on scene to an eighth of an acre on fire in the grass with a slow rate of spread. First engine was able to quickly stop the spread of the fire. Crews remained on scene one hour for mop up.
