The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 8 through Monday, July 14. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JULY 14
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Battalion 5: Crews performed Monday apparatus checks, station maintenance and company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Crews completed Target Solutions assignments.
8:15 a.m. – Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to a fire on Old Bluff Court in the City of Oakdale. Engine 27 arrived on scene to find a fence and gazebo that caught fire. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire preventing any further fire spread. Crews remained on scene for roughly 30 minutes for overhaul.
6:30 p.m. – Engine 28, BC5 along with Oakdale Police Department responded to the report of a vehicle vs. a pedestrian. Engine 28 arrived on scene to find one bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle at low speed and suffered minor injuries. Engine 28 further evaluated the patient with Oak Valley Ambulance.
SUNDAY, JULY 13
Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Battalion 5 provided resource management during a working structure fire in Ceres.
Station 27 had visitors stop in to thank the firefighters for their service.
Engine 27 and E28 conducted rope rescue training along the river bank on Valley View Drive in Oakdale.
SATURDAY, JULY 12
Battalion 5: Weekly station maintenance took place.
Crews trained throughout the battalion on subjects like hose management, pumping evolutions, and driver signoffs.
Engine 28’s crew attended the Oakdale Morning Market.
Engine 28 stopped to help a resident with getting back on the road after getting a flat tire.
FRIDAY, JULY 11
Crews provided training to their probationary firefighters.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus, equipment and station duties early in the day to combat the heat.
THURSDAY, JULY 10
Battalion 2: 2:20 p.m. – Several MST resources assisted Hughson Fire District on an extended vegetation fire off Parks Road along the Tuolumne River. Crews stopped forward progress and Dozer 17 put in a control line. The fire was approximately four acres.
Battalion 5: Deputy Chief Bray, BC3 and MCFFA Local 1289 Executive Board members attended the Oakdale Fire Protection District Board meeting in Knights Ferry.
7:15 p.m. – Brush 28, Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Brush 24, Engine 33 and Battalion 3 responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 10000 block of Alvarado Road. B24 arrived and found a small roadside fire; the balance of the response was canceled, and the incident was quickly mitigated.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 9
MST companies with probationary firefighters conducted auto extrication training at Pick-n-Pull.
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
The Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District held their monthly Board meeting.
5:52 p.m. – Engine 23, Engine 24, Quint 22, and Battalion 5 responded to the 13000 block of Rivercrest Drive in Waterford for white smoke inside a residence. Engine 24 arrived on scene and set up Incident Command. After investigating the source of the smoke, it was determined there was not a fire, just a problem with the HVAC system at the residence.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance, company level training in their respective FMA’s and completed Target Solutions assignments.
Engine 27 and Battalion 5 attended the Valley Home MAC meeting and provided the citizens with a fire department update.
Engine 29 conducted Wednesday station and apparatus maintenance in Valley Home at Fire Station 30.
10:12 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Engine 26 and Battalion 5 responded to the report of an injury accident in 6700 block of Lon Dale Road in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene to an injury accident with three minor patients and one immediate patient who was pinned in. A total of three ambulances were requested to the scene. The immediate patient was quickly extricated, and crews provided ALS care on scene prior to transporting the patient to MMC. One minor patient was flown to a nearby children’s facility for further evaluation. Once all patients were transported from the scene, crews remained on scene to assist with scene clean up.
TUESDAY, JULY 8
The HazMat Team conducted their monthly training at Fire Station 4 with a focus on monitoring.
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance, performed company level training in their respective FMA’s and completed Target Solutions assignments.
8:58 p.m. – Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Brush 28, OES4615, Brush 23, WT23 and Battalion 5 responded to the report of a vegetation fire in the 14000 block of 28-Mile Road behind Woodward Reservoir. Due to the fire being in the SRA a full CalFire response also responded. Battalion 5 arrived on scene to roughly a half-acre vegetation fire in the grass next to Woodward Reservoir with a slow rate of spread. Brush 28, OES4615 and Grass 27 were able to quickly wrap the fire and limit fire spread. Crews remained on scene for roughly one hour with the assistance of two CalFire crews to scratch a line around the fire and mop up.
