The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 10 through Monday, June 16. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JUNE 16
Fleet Services continued with annual pump testing at the Regional Fire Training Center.
The TDA academy began training today at the Regional Fire Training Center. The MST Training Division and shift driver trainers are providing the instruction.
Battalion 2: Crews completed Monday apparatus inspections.
Battalion 5: Companies performed weekly apparatus and equipment checks, weekly outdoor station maintenance and completed on-line training assignments.
SUNDAY, JUNE 15
Companies with probationary firefighters gathered at Station 17 training grounds to train on ladder raises and vertical ventilation.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 did orientation at Oakdale Airport.
Crews did daily equipment checks.
Engine 29 and 9 attended training at Station 17.
SATURDAY, JUNE 14
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks as well as company level training.
Battalion 5: Engine 7 trained on water rescue, shore based rope bags. E27 conducted SCBA training.
12:57 p.m. – Engine 28, B24, G23, OES4617, WT21 responded to a vegetation fire in the 4200 block of Albers Road. E28 was first on scene of a small grass fire. G23 assisted with extinguishment and mop up. Additional units were cancelled. The fire was started by a worker using a grinder near the dry grass.
FRIDAY, JUNE 13
MST companies completed comprehensive search drills on an acquired structure.
Battalion 2: 9:05 a.m. – Engines 9, 23, and Battalion 2 responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 132 near Wellsford Road. BC 2 was the first to arrive and found one person with moderate injuries. E23 handled patient care, and E9 was canceled. E23 retained care and assisted with transport to a local trauma facility. CHP is investigating the incident.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies rotated through search training at the Bent Road training site.
11:46 a.m. – Engine 23, Brush 28, Water Tender 27, OES 4618, OES 4617 and Battalion 5 to the Army Corp property at Highway 108 and Atchison for a vegetation fire. Crews found a half-acre brush and grass fire in the river bottom. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire and overhaul it in 90 minutes.
2:56 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Orange Blossom Road for a vehicle accident with pin in. Crews arrived on scene to find a two-vehicle head on accident with no pin in. One occupant was packaged and treated for minor injuries. CHP is investigating the incident.
THURSDAY, JUNE 12
Battalion 2: Crews are rotating through the Bent Road training site. Training is focused on various residential search tactics.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Engine 27 trained on Probationary Firefighter signoffs.
7:48 a.m. – Engine 9, Engine 26, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 responded to Plainview and Terminal Avenue for a vehicle accident with reported entrapment. Engine 26 arrived on scene to find one vehicle rolled over and the roadway blocked. All occupants were out of the vehicles, with one treated for minor injuries.
9:03 a.m. – Engine 26 and Battalion 5 responded to Albers and Warnerville Road for a vehicle fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a small fire in the engine compartment of a backhoe.
2:46 p.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 responded to Poplar and North First Avenue for a vehicle vs. a motorcycle. Crews arrived on scene to find one rider on the sidewalk. The patient was treated for minor injuries and transported to a local hospital. OPD is investigating.
9:01 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 27, Engine 28, Quint 22, Escalon Engine 1-1, Battalion 2 and Battalion 5 responded to Lon Dale and Cleveland for a vehicle accident with entrapment. Engine 28 arrived to find two vehicles involved, 150 yards apart, with multiple entrapments and one vehicle on fire. Firefighters quickly went to work extinguishing the fire, starting ALS care, and using hydraulic tools to extricate both drivers. Crews were able to remove both drivers in under 20 minutes. Both drivers were flown by air ambulance to area hospitals with major injuries. A third patient was transported by ground to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Engine 29 provided coverage for Station 28 during the incident. CHP is investigating.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11
Battalion 2: Engine 26 had junior police visit the fire station.
Stanislaus crews rotated through search training on Bent Road.
Water Tenders and Boats were the focus of today’s maintenance.
Quint 22 practiced ladder raises with their newest member, Firefighter Guerra.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 and Engine 27 participated in the MST search drills at Bent Road. A vacant house was smoked out using real and artificial smoke to conduct multiple drills in several stations around the property, inside the dwelling as well as the basement. Crews were able to train on search techniques, removing victims and incident command.
TUESDAY, JUNE 10
C-Shift companies attended search training. The training was provided by the MST training cadre from Modesto, Stanislaus Consolidated and Turlock Fire. The training utilized an acquired structure in the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire District on Bent Road.
Battalion 2: Stanislaus crews rotated through search training on Bent Road.
Engine 26 and Engine 24 attended labor/management meeting at Station 26.
Crews focused on interior station maintenance as part of Tuesday duties.
Battalion 5: Crews participated in the search drill on Bent Road working on search tactics.
Crews completed computer-based assignments and conducted training in their respective FMA’s.
