Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 5-1-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, April 23 through Monday, April 29. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, APRIL 29

Battalion 2: Engine 26 conducted company level training on throwing ladders.

Quint 22 split their training time between an aerial waterway drill and rope systems.

Battalion 5: Engine 27, Engine 28, and Engine 29 continued to work on boat training and sign offs on the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry.

Engine 27 and Engine 28 trained on ground ladders.

 

SUNDAY, APRIL 28

Battalion 2: Engine 26 conducted company level training on hose pulls.

Battalion 5: Crews trained in boat operations, Engine company operations, and rope systems.

11:30 a.m. – Engine 23 responded to East Oakdale for the report of a dog that had been missing since Friday. The owners were able to hear the dog but unable to reach it. Once on scene, E23 received the general location of the dog, but they were not able to access or see it due to the terrain. The dog was located at the base of a steep cliff near the Stanislaus River. Battalion 5 attached to the call, made access to the north side of the river and was able to see the dog at the base of a 300’ cliff at the Stanislaus River. Boat 29 was training in the Knights Ferry area and was able to access the dog. The dog was reunited with its family.

 

SATURDAY, APRIL 27

Battalion 2: Engine 26 and Engine 23 participated in the Battalion 5 rural water supply drill hosted by Engine 27.

Quint 22 conducted company training on rope systems.

Engine 26 trained on hose estimations at a new subdivision in their FMA.

Battalion 5: 12:44 a.m. – Engine 24, Engine 29, and 4456 responded to a four-vehicle accident in the area of LaGrange Road and Cooperstown Road. No further details available.

1:41 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and BC5 responded to a vehicle into a power pole on South Yosemite in Oakdale. On arrival crews found a patient in the vehicle. Crews attempted to extricate the patient for approximately 20 minutes. The medics on scene declared the driver deceased at the scene. PG&E was called out to stabilize the pole due to it being sheared off.

Companies in Battalion 5 conducted rural water supply training.

 

FRIDAY, APRIL 26

Battalion 2: Both Quints trained on ventilation at the MST Drill Grounds.

Engine 26 trained on salvage operations.

Engine 26 attended the Crossroads Elementary School Carnival.

Battalion 5: 5:57 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 29 and BC5 were dispatched to a solo vehicle accident on Rodden Road. Upon arrival E28 found a car that had driven off the road down an embankment about 50 feet. Three occupants self-extricated and walked up to the road. All three patients were transported to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.

10:04 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and BC5 were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover on Valley Home Road. Crews arrived on scene to find a person that had crawled out on her own and had only minor injuries.

 

THURSDAY, APRIL 25

Training Division continued the Engineers academy at the RFTC.

Crews worked on various pumping evolutions.

Battalion 2: Shift wrapped up annual wildland training at Woodward Reservoir. The crews practiced obtaining water from a static source, progressive hose lays, and mobile attacks.

Battalions 2 and 5 met with CalFire B4416 in preparation for the upcoming fire season.

Battalion 5: 7:22 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, Stanislaus Engine 26, Engine 23, Quint 22, Water Tender 27, Water Tender 23, Water Tender 21, BC5, BC2, Medic 1, and FIU responded to a report of a residential working structure fire in the 12000 block of Rodden Road in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on-scene of a large single-story house with nothing showing and went into investigation mode. They confirmed that it was burnt food on the stove and cancelled the responding balance.

 

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24

The Training Division continued with the second week of training in the engineer’s academy.

An open house for interested firefighter candidates was hosted at the RFTC.

Battalion 2: Crews rotated through annual wildland refresher at Woodward Reservoir.

Battalion 2 units joined other MST units at an open house at the RFTC for firefighter recruitment.

Battalion 5: Crews rotated through annual RT 130 Wildland Training at Woodward Reservoir.

Modesto Engine 27 conducted a public education event in Oakdale.

 

TUESDAY, APRIL 23

Battalion 2: Engine 24, Engine 26, and Quint 22 worked with our partners at CHP, Cal Star, and Oak Valley to conduct an “Every 15 minutes” program for students at Waterford High School.

4:37 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to a vehicle accident involving three cars at Patterson and Estelle. One patient was treated for minor injuries.

Battalion 5: Engine 12, Engine 27, and Engine 28 conducted training, low angle rescue and portable master streams.
