The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, April 15 through Monday, April 21. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, APRIL 21
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews completed their quarterly MST water rescue training at Turlock Lake.
10:30 p.m. – Engine 23, Water Rescue 21, Water Rescue 24, and Battalion 2 provided mutual aid to the Hughson Fire Protection District for two kayakers in the water near Fox Grove Park. Air 111 from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s office located the two kayakers and guided Water Rescue 24 to their location. The two kayakers were uninjured. Water Rescue 24 ferried the kayakers and their boat back to Fox Grove Park.
Battalion 5: Companies completed weekly apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Engine 28 and Engine 29 trained with their boats at Turlock Lake.
11:22 a.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 dispatched to Lena Court for an EMS CPR call.
SUNDAY, APRIL 20
Battalion 2: Engine 26 attended an Easter egg hunt at SaveMart.
Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews trained on RT-130 skills and hose line deployment.
SATURDAY, APRIL 19
Tech Rescue team members trained on high angle rope rescue techniques.
Members of MFD organized a Muscular Dystrophy Fill-the-Boot fundraiser in Modesto, Oakdale and Ceres areas with fire department members and family assisting in the event.
Battalion 2: Stations 22 and 23 trained with WR 21 and 24 at Turlock Lake with four new boat operators.
Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Engines 26, 27, 28, 7 and Battalion 5 performed a preplan of the Army Corp of Engineers property at Mesa and Highway 108. Crews looked at access, hazards and residential exposures.
MFD Firefighters participated in the Fill the Boot campaign for MDA. Firefighters collected donations at F Street and Yosemite.
Engine 27 and Battalion 5 served dinner to the dispatchers at SR911 for Dispatcher Appreciation Week.
7:24 p.m. – Engine 27 to West F Street. and Willowood Drive for a vehicle accident. Firefighters arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved, partially blocking the intersection. One patient was treated and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. OPD is investigating.
FRIDAY, APRIL 18
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 crews conducted company level training walking a roof and practicing hose evolutions.
Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 trained in their respective Fire Management areas on various skills, completed various station maintenance projects and got caught up on their Target Safety solution assignments.
Engine 29 prepped the Woodward Reservoir areas that will hold the annual Rt130 Wildland Firefighting refresher training.
Engine 28 trained on various rescue skills including air bags at Station 28.
THURSDAY, APRIL 17
Crews rotated through Station 22 for quarterly EMS training.
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 crews rotated through EMS quarterly training.
Engine 26 trained on boat operations on the Stanislaus River.
Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 trained in their respective Fire Management areas on various skills. Crews also completed station maintenance projects.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews attended quarterly EMS training.
Personnel completed their annual wildland refresher training on Vector Solutions.
Battalion 5: Crews performed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Engine 27 and Engine 29 spent the morning taking care of the station and the yards, doing a major outside clean up.
9:32 a.m. – Engine 28 and Engine 27 responded to the 9000 block of Rodden Road for a subject who fell off a lift. Engine 28 provided patient care along with Oak Valley and Engine 27 set up the LZ for the transporting helicopter. The patient was taken to DMC for further evaluation and care.
9:40 p.m. – Engine 29, Engine 28, and Battalion 5 responded to the report of an injury accident on Sonora Road just north of Knights Ferry. Engine 29 arrived on scene to one solo vehicle into a fence and checked for injuries. No reported injuries were found, and the remainder of the response was cancelled. Engine 29 remained on scene for CHP.
TUESDAY, APRIL 15
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews participated in quarterly EMS training.
Engine 23, Engine 26, Battalion 2, and Battalion 5 toured the Riverbank Army Ammo Depot.
Engine 26 personnel celebrated the re-occupancy of a fire-damaged home with the occupant and contractor in Riverbank. The resident had a fire this past February. MST resources responded to the fire and knocked it down before it could destroy the house.
1:09 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to a motor vehicle accident at Claribel and Claus roads in Riverbank. After assessing the scene, it was determined it was a non-injury accident.
Battalion 5: Crews performed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance in addition to company level training in their respective FMA’s.
BC5 ran resources for the working structure fire on Third.
Boat 29 trained on boat operation on the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry.
