The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Feb. 21 through Monday, Feb. 27. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

 

MONDAY, FEB. 27

Battalion 2: 7:42 a.m. – Engine 23, E27 and BC2 responded to the report of a vehicle accident at Claribel and Bentley roads. On arrival two vehicles were found, after assessment all occupants released against medical advice (AMA).

Battalion 5: 6:43 a.m. – Engine 28, E29, and BC5 responded to Highway 4 and Dunton Road for the report of a head on collision. Crews arrived to find two vehicles involved with major damage. Crews performed a rapid triage of the patients and found one patient deceased. Crews began initial patient care on the second patient while base hospital contact was made. The second patient was also declared deceased on scene. Crews remained on scene and assisted CHP and the coroner’s office.

 

SUNDAY, FEB. 26

Battalion 2 crews along with Q18, BC3 and BC4 rotated through Station 17. Residential working structure fires were simulated, crews worked on arrival reports, laying out first alarm assignments as well as deploying hose and venting.

11:11 p.m. – MCS units were dispatched to a working structure fire in the area of Milnes and Santa Fe. E9 arrived and reported a single-story milk barn well involved. Crews operated in the defensive mode. Once the fire was knocked down, crews transitioned to the offensive mode to completely extinguish the fire and search. Several animals were found deceased. The incident was contained utilizing five engines, three water tenders, one quint and two chief officers. The property owner was notified. FIU investigating.

SATURDAY, FEB. 25

Battalion 2: Companies ran through Quarterly Battalion Drills.

Battalion 5: MST units conducted equipment checks and station maintenance.

MST units conducted in house training.

MST units rotated throughout the day at Station 17 for Battalion drills on commercial fires.

 

FRIDAY, FEB. 24

Battalion 2: Engine companies completed company level training.

Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Crews conducted training with probationary firefighters.

Crews rotated through Quarterly EMS Training at Fire Station 17.

 

THURSDAY, FEB. 23

Battalion 5: 12:58 p.m. – Stanislaus Quint 22, Engine 23, Modesto Engine 27, and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with pin-in at Claribel Road and Albers Road. Upon Engine 23’s arrival there were three vehicles involved with one overturned blocking Claribel Road west of Albers Road. There was a total of two patients with minor injuries and negative pin-in. The patients were transported to local hospitals for further treatment.

2 p.m. – Modesto BC1, BC3, and BC5 attended an Active Shooter Training hosted by Modesto Police Department. The BC’s worked with the Sergeants on creating a unified command and working together to mitigate the emergency while still providing care to wounded victims.

 

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 22

Battalion 5: Crews participated in training provided by the MST training division during the captains meeting at the RFTC.

 

TUESDAY, FEB. 21

Battalion 2: 6:22 p.m. – Stanislaus Engine 26 responded to the 2300 block of Candlewood for large tree that fell on the residence. The tree caused significant structural damage resulting in three residents being displaced.

Battalion 5: 1:49 p.m. – Engine 29, Engine/WT 27, Truck 5 and BC5 responded to a potential structure fire for a chimney fire. Engine 29 arrived to find a wood burning stove with a blocked chimney. Crews extinguished the fire in the stove, checked for extension and ventilated the residence.

Crews worked on various projects including the removal of an old SCBA fill station and the repair of Station 27’s flagpole.
