Local Scouts gear up for annual food drive
Scout 11-4

On Saturday, Nov. 7 local Cub Scout Pack 365 will be joined by the older scouts from Scout Troop 365 to drop off empty grocery bags generously donated by SaveMart, Grocery Outlet (Oakdale and Riverbank stores) and Raley’s at neighborhoods around Oakdale for the annual Scouting for Food community service project.

The scouts will return to those neighborhoods the following Saturday, Nov. 14 to pick up the bags, which by then will hopefully be packed with non-perishable food items. All donations go to the Oakdale Community Sharing Christian Center and Food Pantry.

The food drive has been successful for the last several years, collecting thousands of pounds of donated items. In 2025, the weight total was 6,130 pounds; in 2024, it was 5,670 and in 2023, the total was 4,640 pounds.

“We want to get the word out about this food drive so that our wonderful community can help us beat our amazing record from last year, meaning even more families in our community will not experience hunger, thanks to this community’s support,” said Community Service Coordinator Deirdre Baker. “This service project, and the many others Cub Scout Pack 365 participates in, is one of the main reasons I signed up my children for scouts. Our pack and the troops are always open for new children to join.”
