One lane of eastbound F Street traffic near South Fourth Avenue was closed down for about 90 minutes on Wednesday, Dec. 24 while Oakdale Police, the city’s Public Works department and Reliable Tow of Oakdale worked on clearing the roadway after a solo vehicle rollover accident.

Oakdale Police Sergeant Joe Johnson said the 19-year-old driver of a 1974 Chevrolet 4WD pick-up truck was accelerating, then accidentally shifted his automatic transmission from drive into reverse, causing the wheels to skid and spin backwards.

While trying to correct the skid, the vehicle hit the west curb in front of the bike shop and a large concrete planter then continued to the raised concrete median where it overturned and eventually came to a stop.

Johnson said the driver was eventually able to get out of the vehicle on his own. As a precaution, he went to Oak Valley Hospital via ambulance.
