One woman is dead and a man under arrest in connection with what authorities are terming a homicide that occurred just outside Oakdale on Monday night, July 27.

According to a press release issued late Tuesday afternoon by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched to the 9500 block of Victory Avenue just outside of Oakdale about 8:35 p.m. Monday for a subject who had been involved in a fight.

When the first deputy arrived on scene he contacted a man identified as Roque Palomino, 53, of Riverbank. Palomino had injuries to his face and when the deputy asked him how he had been injured Palomino attempted to take the deputy’s handgun out of his holster. The deputy had to deploy his Taser to arrest Palomino and he was later transported to the emergency room.

Deputies learned that Palomino had driven his truck into the canal near the 9500 block of Victory and they found it completely submerged. They also received information that his wife, 49-year-old Cynthia Palomino, had been with him earlier in the evening.

The Sheriff’s Office Dive team and helicopter were called out to assist deputies in searching for Cynthia Palomino. As deputies continued searching for her, they found her in an orchard not far from where they located the truck in the canal. Cynthia Palomino was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives were called out to take over the investigation. They processed the crime scene and interviewed witnesses throughout the evening. Detectives have arrested Roque Palomino for homicide and he was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail.

Detectives are not releasing any further details of the case at this time.
