Under the direction of drama teacher Bryan Mills, the Oakdale High School Drama Club will present a Neil Simon comedy, Rumors. This full length comedy will be presented on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. in the OHS Theater. Tickets are $5 and will be sold in advance in the business office of the school or at the door.

Rumors is set at the large, tastefully appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse in New York. We find out that the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. Gathering for their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken Gorman (Ethan Richinson) and wife Chris Gorman (Jessica Gorman) must get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and miscommunications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.

Playing the main characters of the cast are Javan Pritchard and Brianne Cordano as Lenny and Claire Ganz; Kevin Callejas and Makayla Johnson as Ernie and Cookie Cusack; Scott De Anda and Halley Smith as Glenn and Cassie Cooper; and Officers Welch and Pudney played by Wiley Taylor and Alexes Starkweather. Thomas Mason is the understudy for the show along with two students who helped Mills direct, Emily Hudson and Brandon Layton.

Neil Simon’s comic credentials are indisputable. The author of dozens of the most beloved American stage comedies, he made his reputation with “Barefoot in the Park” in 1963, cemented it with “The Odd Couple” in 1965, and has never stopped turning out popular hits since.
