At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting, those attending enjoyed a lovely array of desserts before the meeting. The town yard sale is to be October 2nd on the tennis court from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The 10 by 10 space is free; just bring your tables, chairs, change and your good stuff to sell. Call Linda at 847-6245 to reserve a space, they go fast. That is a breakfast Sunday also. Linda Cassinetto passed around flyers for the Zero party to be held September 24th at the clubhouse starting at 5:30 p.m. This party honors all whose birthday ends in zero. Bring a food dish to share, beverage if you want (beer and wine provided) and NO gifts! Entertainment will be by Benny and his gang. This is the 10th year for this celebration. Speaker for the evening was Duane Johnson, Manager of the Army Corp Park in the Ferry. He talked about the Covered Bridge and the Salmon Festival on November 13th. Everyone was reminded of the Pumpkin Roll on November 6th.

Found in the “Good Old Days” section of the Sonora Union Democrat paper, dated 1868: “General Grant’s half-breed son, Captain Tommy, made his entrée in society at Sonora one day last week. The young gentleman wore a Grant badge: and although several shades darker than papa, resembles him very much. After enjoying the freedom of our city streets for a couple of days, he returned to Knights Ferry.” Surprising bits of history pop up now and then!
