Knights Ferry News for November 2, 2011

It is with heavy heart that your reporter has to inform you of the passing of two Knights Ferry residents. Linda Gardella Cassinetto died October 25th. She is survived by her husband Ben, children Monica Frere (Lou), Stephen Dietrich and Beth Dietrich and stepchildren Ed (Denise) Cassinetto, Sheryl Cassinetto and partner John and Tom Cassinetto and partner Karen and grandchildren Zack DeGrood, Eden and Benjamin Cassinetto. She is survived by her brother Jack (Trisha) Gardella. Services were held Tuesday. Donations can be made to the Gardella College Fund at the Sonora Area Foundation, P.O. Box 577 Sonora, 95370.

The other passing is Owen Haskell, who died October 29th at home. He had just celebrated his 88th birthday with a party. He is survived by daughters Shavon Haskell, Dolly Haskell and Laura (Dave) Simons and grandchildren Owen Haskell, James Haskell, Will Haskell Kelly, John (Amy) Simons, Karyn ( Joey) Miller, Josh Hauskens and great-grandchildren Kody and Elissa Simons, Kyle and Dane Hauskens, and Megan and Riley Miller. Services are Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

The local Knights Ferry Odd Fellows lodge found a fireproof cement box in their basement. They jack hammered it open and found the minutes of every meeting ever held. Now at their monthly meetings they read the minutes of the meeting 100 years ago.

The 5th and 6th graders toured Knights Ferry and the museum, led by Lee and Mary Sue Shearer. Julia Nilsson liked going into the old jail and being locked in. Paris Thompson liked seeing the things in the museum. Ray Patton also liked the jail experience. Many Loomis liked the popcorn treat from the Ice Cream Shop. Madeline Freitas liked it all!

The KF Community Club will meet Thursday, November 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. It is a dessert meeting.

Sunday, November 6th is the 48 annual Pumpkin Roll in the Ferry. Breakfast at the Odd Fellows Hall 8-noon, craft fair in the clubhouse, rolling of pumpkins down Main Street, food, and fun etc. all in one day! Winners of the roll in each category will get a genuine simulated gold trophy!

On Saturday, November 5th is the Salmon Festival at the park from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

On November 9th girls between the ages of 8 and 20 are invited, along with their parents, to attend a membership information night for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls at the Masonic Hall located at the corner of Ellen and Main Streets. It will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with pizza, drinks dessert, crafts and information regarding this organization.
