At the Community Club meeting, the members were informed that someone had broken into the storage room and the liquor cabinet. There will be a surveillance camera put up. The dusk to dawn light in the plaza has finally been installed and lights up the parking lot. The Community Clubhouse can be rented for receptions etc. and there is an ad in the phone book. The next meeting is the July picnic at the park. A community yard sale was discussed and everyone seemed in favor of having it in October. All enjoyed the desserts.

The “Little School on the Hill” held graduation last Wednesday. The weather was cloudy and cold but the audience was treated to a rainbow over the hills. The Kindergarten students sang “The Day I Read a Book” and were handed their diplomas by School Board members Sherron McCarthy and Mark Schlegel. Speaker for the evening was retiring teacher Ellen Wearin. The Eighth Grade class gave the school Bobcat door mats to show Bobcat Pride to those who enter the buildings. Ellen Wearin was presented with a quilt with squares done by past and present staff members. The Eighth Graders were presented their diplomas by Board members Nancy Redden and Maureen McKibban. Cake and drinks were enjoyed after the program.
Congratulations go out to Jaycee Harden on her perfect attendance for her nine years at Knights Ferry School. She received a plaque and a gift certificate. Way to go!

The 85th annual Homecoming was well attended. James and Shirley McCabe and Joan and Jim Theaker attended. James and Joan’s grandfather George McCabe opened a general merchandise store, located on Main Street (now the I.O.O.F. Hall) in 1891. It was the first store building in Stanislaus County to have modern traveling ladders along both walls to reach the high shelves. Also attending were Jim and Muriel Morrison from Oregon, Jim being the grandson of James Morrison (Morrison Road) who had orchards and vineyards. Old Morrison family photos were displayed as well as a map of the Morrison Road area in 1890 and in 1990. It was a great time reminiscing.

At the end of the year assembly at Knights Ferry School, three students were awarded plaques for a perfect 4.0 GPA for the year. They were Meghan Caron, Sage Heckinger and Ashley Caron. Keep up the good work!
Also at the assembly Perfect Attendance awards were handed out to: Alexis Arias, Annette Arias, Jocelyn Burke, Maria Garcia, Aleesha Harden, Grace Harden, Jaycee Harden, Sophie Jones, Kim Medeiros, Julia Nilsson, Kaeli Sweet, Cleo Wilson, Matthew Wolf and Elijah Van Brunt.

The retirement party for Ellen Wearin on Saturday was moved from the McCarthy’s home to the Community Club because of rain and that was good because of the large turnout! Good food, good games and good reminiscing went on and Ellen was presented with a box full of letters from former students and parents. Ellen also won the “Jeopardy” game - a trip to see the program! Ellen and her husband Bill will be moving to this area this summer.
