At the Knights Ferry School Board meeting Becky Slaughter from CRSIG Insurance came and presented the school a Safety Award, a plaque and $1000. Knights Ferry had safety issues identified and got them fixed with 100 percent compliance, above 36 school districts in getting it all done. Congratulations! Also at the meeting an after school program was discussed with a sample draft of the paperwork. The Board approved to go ahead and implement the program if there is enough interest. There is going to be a parent-run lunchtime Science and Art program for those students interested.

Vacation Bible School had about 70 in attendance and all had a good time.

Pat Pfefferle is home after visiting son Will Johnson in Alabama. While there Pat visited the Phoenix Fire Museum and the Museum of Medicine, which she found very interesting. She also saw a ten-foot alligator. Will will marry Anna Steele July 21 in St. Louis. When Pat came home, her plane was canceled in Houston, Texas, so she had to spend the night. Then her new plane landed in San Francisco and she had left from Sacramento so son Sam picked her up. Then Pat turned around and flew to St. Louis for the Bridal Shower! Sam is going to the Bachelor’s party in New Orleans.

The Knights Ferry Art Camp was a huge success. Kim McCarthy ran the first session for 1st through 3rd graders where they made flowers a la Georgia O’Keefe and cave drawings. The second session was for 4th through 8th graders and they worked with India ink and did Van Gogh sunflowers.

Boy Scout Ray McCartney organized the painting of the Clubhouse for his Eagle Scout project. This is a Scout’s major project to show leadership. He had to get everything and everybody in place for this project. The Community Club fed the 27 workers lunch on June 30. Thanks to all who brought food and helped cook! Ray said the hardest part was to keep the young workers safe, making sure only those older were on the scaffolding etc. Many parents came out to help also. The community is very thankful.

Tasha and Jason Sweet, Kaeli and Degan, and Bill and Kay Martinelli and Logan are hosting exchange students from Spain for a month. Carmen is with the Sweet family and Amaia is with the Martinelli’s. They go on trips with the other exchange students in the program and the host family shows them the local sights. The girls are high school age. They enjoyed the Community Club picnic. Tasha said they have had lots of hot dogs and hamburgers, as it is barbeque season.
