Heather Voortman and I spent our Friday morning looking through old pictures given to the Knights Ferry Museum. I am constantly in awe of the incredible history of our town and often try to imagine how busy it must have been. I can’t imagine a town of 300 people let alone 3000 people. There are a few aerial shots of town featuring the courthouse. There are very few photos of the courthouse before it burnt in the late 1800s; in fact all that remains of the front of the building is a sketching. Just try to imagine the chaos of the current Stanislaus County seat right in the middle of Knights Ferry when it held the Stanislaus County seat for a few years in the 1800s! It seems unreal but these are the treasures we uncover in the Knights Ferry Museum.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Miller’s Hall Museum or are a current member, you’re invited to a wine and cheese sampling on October 20th. It is a small annual membership and helps to preserve our town’s history.
