Knights Ferry News 3-30-22

Last week, we had a bit of a scare when a Gilton Solid Waste garbage truck caught fire between the 50s Roadhouse and the bridge. The fire department and law enforcement responded to the call and the fire crew was able to extinguish the fire before things could escalate! The road was blocked for about 20 minutes and then opened to one-way traffic.

Spread the word! Main Street in Knights Ferry will be closed on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from about 6am-3pm. There is a detour on the side streets but it is not accessible for large vehicles such as trucks and trailers, and motorhomes. Volunteers will be posted to help maintain the flow of traffic safely, so please be patient with them if they ask you to wait for the oncoming traffic.

I am so sorry to hear that Charlotte Haley passed away on March 24. Charlotte was a sweet and kind hearted woman. She was a regular attendee at the Community Club events with her daughter, Charilyn Damigo. Charlotte had a very calm presence and even though she didn’t have roots quite as deep as others in the area, she was happy to be a part of our activities. I will be praying for Charlotte’s husband, Ben and daughter, Charilyn. Funeral services for Charlotte will be April 2 at 11am at River Oak Grace Church in Oakdale.

The Knights Ferry General Store is celebrating its 170th birthday this year! The General Store has been the back-drop for beautiful photographs and a popular stop for motorcycle groups and tourists looking to sip on a delicious Bloody Mary or ice cold beer. It has markers on the wall to show the depth of floods that have wrecked numerous buildings in town on multiple occasions. As a child, I grew up coming into the General Store after school with some change to buy candy from Rick and Glenda and as an adult, I finally got to walk into the saloon. If you have been in Knights Ferry for a while, you know that it was almost a rite of passage to enter the Saloon when you turned 21 years old! And in the present day, I still get to enjoy the familiar face of Rick Maisel standing behind the store and the saloon bar countertop.
